Pressed Plants

I collected the three plant specimens on my property that borders Kluane National Park in Haines Junction, Yukon. The habitat is an open black spruce (Picea mariana) forest on disturbed sandy soil facing southeast.

It was an enjoyable process. The Polemonium acutiflorum was so delicate it kept sticking to the newspaper. I managed to move it on to the white paper and it turned out nicely. The blue inflorescence really stands out. Epilobium angustifolium and Achillea millefolium have sturdier aerial stems and were easier to press.

  1. Thank you for this fine pressing job and detailed label information Raven! Well done. Yes, Polemonium acutiflorum has glandular hairs, so no surprise it stuck to your newspaper. Nice how it retained its colors.
