I love exploring, looking for new and interesting plants and fungi. Having moved multiple times around Alaska to drastically different regions in the last 6 years, I have never feel at home in a place until I understand the new botanical environment. Much to my children's dismay, I always go slow and look at my feet where ever we go. I get excited to see new plants and I am eager to look them up, taking samples or pictures along the way.
Professionally, I work in social services and I have bachelor degrees in Philosophy and History and a minor in Women and Gender Studies. Since I starting working in such a high stress field, I have found the need for connection to the environment to be very important to my own self-preservation. I continually take classes to support and build on my knowledge of plants and the land around me. I look forward to learning a lot this semester from everyone.
Fabulous job on these, I had a really hard time to choose between your dissections. You took some amazing images of the anthers of Iris, so folks check it out. Your Valerian was also very intriguing. But ultimately I went with Rubus arcticus, the longitudinal section through the flower is gorgeous, shows, the separate pistils very well. If you can check on the Parnassus link, it is the same as the Valerian link. Thanks!

Thank you, this was a really fun assignment. I enjoyed playing with two different lenses. I updated the Grass of Parnassus link. I’m sorry about that, it should all work now.
