I've lived all over Alaska, most recently in the Dena'ina Lands of the Matanuska Valley. I come from a large family, and we were raised off grid in rural Alaska. Foraging is often how we filled our pantries for the long winter, and we learned methods of respectful and responsible harvesting along the way. We also fished, hunted wild game, and raised sled dogs for mushing. Today, life is a lot easier. I forage because it's what I enjoy, and my pups are no longer working animals. One day I will homestead again, because Alaska is my way of life.
