I am a Navy brat and did not grow up gardening, and my parents were both from northeast cities, so I was not a nature kid. I worked as a park ranger after graduating from college and fell in love with all things wild, including plants. Picking blueberries on the tundra in Golovin, Alaska, is a favorite memory. I’ve grown lots of my own vegetables and herbs for many years now and I love foraging. I earned my Permaculture Design Certificate in 2021 and currently serve as the president of the Alaska Master Gardeners Anchorage chapter, on the Board of Boyer's Orchard, and as a member of the Alaska Community Forestry Council.
Fabulous job Emily! The Calypso orchid is just a treasure trove of fusion, lots of adnation, but also some connation. The column is unique feature in orchids showing adnation of stamens and pistils, the labellum (the modified petal at the lower end of the orchid flower) shows fusion of several petals. Great photography too!
