My name is Alissa Healy and I'm from Fairbanks, Alaska. I've always been fascinated with plants - from admiring bluebells around my family's home to picking local berries every fall to making Alaska flora my latest center of attention in art projects! My parents raised me to be in awe of and respectful towards the natural world around us. The first real introduction I had to medicinal uses of plants, however, was years ago, when my paternal grandpa was diagnosed with a ruthless cancer. One of our Elders from our Athabascan village, Healy Lake, began recommending natural remedies we could help my grandpa try; and they worked in many ways! Ever since then, I've become obsessed with any medicinal plant book/resource I can get my hands on. I frequently enjoy outdoor adventures with my two dogs so that I can add to my collection of "observed in real-life" species. Being the passionate learner that I am, I have several ongoing projects of interest to help share what I've researched. Some of these include a self-published poetry anthology/coloring book series and a website.

My name is Alissa Healy and I’m a life-long resident of Fairbanks, Alaska. I have family from all over, but mainly Ireland, Alaska, and some of the “Lower 48.” From my paternal side, I’m Upper Tanana Athabascan, from the village of Healy Lake. I’m very proud of my Dené heritage …
