My name is Naomi and I am a Senior in the UAF Department of Alaska Native Studies & Rural Development program. I live within the Norton Sound/Bering Strait region of Alaska and am actively participating in subsistence, commercial fishing, and and tundra plant harvesting.

!Hi My name is Naomi Jones and I live in the Norton/Sound Bering Strait region of Alaska. In my curiosity about the plants surrounding my community is what inspired me to enroll in and pursue a certificate from the Kuskokwim campus in Ethnobotany. I would like to learn about more ways to apply the medicinal plants in my region. With enough practice and more confidence I endeavor to make a presentation to my local tribe about the plants and applications therein.

Welcome Naomi, it is great to see diverse geographic representation in this course. I hope this class will get you a deeper understanding of the plants in your immediate area and by extension what plants might be useful for traditional medicines. I have worked with documentary film maker Sarah Betcher to produce a number of videos on wild and edible plants of Alaska. You might want to have a look at those.
